What's the best place to stay in Cyrpus

We would like to travel to Cyprus for 7-10 days next February 2013. I am 70 and my wife 64. We will be coming from Istanbul.

We normally like to drive to see the most of a place. This time it would be nice to stay just in one or at the most two beautiful places, and from there strategically visit the "must" places for the day. We are not real lovers of beaches but of culture and nature. We normally stay in nice B&Bs with a friendly and cozy atmosphere. We would like to make visits, rest and relax.

Could you give us some initial suggestions? We have never been in Cyprus.

Many thanks,

Ricardo and Cecilia Reich

Best place in Cyprus for nature, culture and scenery
by: Helen

First of all, if you are travelling from Turkey, you need to be aware that you can only fly into the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus from Istanbul. You cannot fly direct to either Paphos or Larnaca airports.

If you wish to visit South (ie. the Republic of) Cyprus you will need to cross the border and this then presents complications for you as you can't take a hire car across the border without risking insurance problems.

I live in the South and the best place to stay if you want nature, culture and scenery is the north west - unspoilt and far less touristy than the big resorts of Paphos/Limassol/Larnaca. The Akamas peninsula is especially beautiful.

If you don't want to cross the border, then simply stay near Kyrenia. There is plenty of walking and scenery eg. mountains to see and you can visit the Karpasian peninsula which is very unspoilt too.

All the information you need is on my site. Just keep browsing through the pages :)
