two nights/three days in Cyprus having landed in Larnaca

I am attending a conference in November in Cyprus, and have booked a flight that arrives two/three days before the conference starts.

My flight is to Larnaca and as yet I have not booked any accommodation for the first two nights of my time in Cyprus (after that I am in Conference accommodation).

I am keen for advice about how I make best use of my time. Do I stay in Larnaca and do walking tours or whatever? Or would hiring a car at the airport and doing a tour staying at different places for the two nights be a good idea? I would really welcome advice about what I might do.
