Travel to Cyprus with Turkish Cypriot heritage

by Eugene Apak

My father is Turkish Cypriot.

Can I travel to Cyprus as a British Citizen?

I have heard that I might be liable for National Service in North Cyprus.

Can I go to any part of Cyprus. I would like to visit Ayia Napa this year, but was a little worried about the above. Should I avoid going to North Cyprus?

Thanks

Eugene

I assume you live in the UK? If you hold a British passport and in effect a British citizen, then you can freely travel anywhere in Cyprus whether to the Turkish occupied North or the Republic of Cyprus.

If by your question you are a Turkish Cypriot citizen with a Turkish passport, you can still travel all over Cyprus. The borders are easy to cross. I'm not sure about your eligibility for military service. I assume this would only be the case if you recently moved to the UK from the TRNC in Northern Cyprus and still a Turkish Cypriot citizen like your father.
