Short easy walks in Cyprus

by Mary
(Llanelli)

My husband and I are due to visit beautiful Cyprus once again and will be staying in Neo Chorio - we have recently started taking short walks to help rebuild my husband's stamina after a big operation. We have proper walking boots and are thinking of walking near the Aphrodite Baths. Has anyone else got any suggestions of short, easy walks for us beginners?

Easy walks in Cyprus
by: Helen

There are a number of easy level trails on the Akamas peninsula and Neo Chorio is the perfect location as you can do many walks straight from the village as below:

1 Walk toward Smigies picnic site about 2km from the village and choose either the 45 minute Pissouri Moutti trail (fabulous views from the top of the mountain) or the short version (3.5km) of the Smigies trail. Both are waymarked and start from the picnic site.

2 From the village take the first left road toward Androlikou village (you can see it in the distance). Much of this track has now been laid with concrete but it is still a lovely walk to the village and back (about 8km round trip).

3 At the top of the village take the right hand fork and keep left on a concrete road which then becomes a dirt track. Stay on this track and keep walking straight ahead ignoring any turnings - this is the "back" route to Smigies picnic site and takes about 45 minutes. Come back down the track as in route 1 above.

There is also now a waymarked trail in the forest above Argaka village. No maps yet as it has only just been finished but go to Lisa's place, the restaurant on the coaost road past Argaka and ask for Efklides, Lisa's father. He is an ex forester who got the trail waymarked and he will explain how to get to the trail (basically you have to drive to the top of the village from the turning at the Kiosk) then have lunch at Lisa's place afterwards!

Enjoy your walking in Cyprus and don't forget to share some pictures with our readers here when you're back.
