How much money should we take on a holiday to Cyprus

by Nikki
(Blackpool)

I am going to Polis for two weeks next month with my husband. We will be staying in a villa and need to know how much money to take with us for food and drink?

We will be eating out every evening and will probably get some bread and cheese in for lunches during the day. Any suggestions?

Spending money for two weeks in Cyprus

If you plan to eat out every night I would budget on around €40 euros per night for food including a bottle of wine or some beers, €30 without wine.

Cheese is not cheap to buy in supermarkets especially if you choose what you know ie. cheddar etc which is imported so pricey - around €4.50 for a small 250g piece. Try buying feta or local halloumi cheese to save money. Bread costs around €2 euros a loaf for Cypriot bread, double that if you buy Mother's Pride or similar "cotton wool" type imported bread as I call it! You can also only get that in the freezer sections.

So you're looking at €500-600 euros for eating out at night, probably around €50-100 for supermarket shop for breakfast/milk/tea/coffee etc then maybe €10-20 per day for extras like a light lunch, coffee and a glass of wine.

Oh and if hiring a car, petrol is no longer cheap here, bit lower than the UK but as of Feb 2013 you're looking at €1.45 a litre for unleaded.

Hope that helps.
