Good local food in the Coral Bay Paphos area

by andrew
(manchester, uk)

I am staying in Coral Bay shortly, and from what I have read, the majority of restaurants and cafes are mass market burger and chip type places.

I don't intend to drive during the holiday, and am a big fan of real local food, so I am looking for advice on where I should eat??

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks - I think Peyia might have to hold the answer for me!

Might have a go on the buses as well.

Eating Cypriot in Coral Bay
by: Ruth

Hi there I have an apartment in Peyia village and there is now a mini bus service to Peyia from CoralBay / Corallia Bay regularly every 30 mins or every hour not sure which. During the day amyway.

Buses are very cheap, you could also walk but up hill all the way. Peyia taverna is good for a meat Meze. Savvas Savvas Tue/Friday have a Greek evening, Meze music good fun taxi about €5 I think. Mediterranean eccentric owner fish dishes good. Sea bream at Cousins excellent.

As Helen said Kathikas is great as well. There is a place at Agios Georgious you can get to on bus. Not really tried this but great sea view over the harbour.

If you fancy a stay on Peyia village anytime details of my apartment can be found on www.myhideaway.co.uk.

Local Cypriot food in Paphos Coral bay
by: Helen (website owner)

There are some non burger-and-chips restaurants in Coral bay such as the Chinese near the Thalassa hotel, but if you're not intending to hire a car then you are going to struggle finding more authentic Cypriot home cooked food as most of that is to be found in mountain villages or in back streets in old Paphos.

Kathikas village for instance, a 20 minute drive from Coral bay on the road to Polis has 5 different tavernas all serving a good range of different Cypriot food such as Yiannis, Petradaki or Imogens (good for vegetarian dishes). Peyia village, 5 mins drive up the hill from Coral bay has a few good restaurants too.

Alternatively you can take a bus into old Paphos and visit Laona or the Kiniras hotel which has a great restaurant and traditional home cooked food.

If a hire car is too much, I suggest you take a taxi once or twice to exprience real Cypriot food rather than tourist fare in the resorts. Latchi harbour is a must if you love fish straight from the sea but it is a 40 minutes drive from Coral bay. The bus service however is cheap - see my page on Cyprus buses.
