Pakyammos actually means "broad sands" and its a blue-flag beach. Although the beach is wave-battered and seaweed-littered, it's the only beach whilst swimming which has a unique view. In the sea you can see the whole village and its beautiful hills, UN troops and hear Church bells from the Ayios Raphael Church.

Apparently I was told by locals that turtles came and lay their eggs at night time.

Pachyammos beach
by: Chris Joannides

Pachyammos has the best strecth of sandy beach along the Polis to Kato Pygros coastline.

Turtles are also occassional visitors to Pachyammos beach and the villagers have put in place provisions to ensure their safety, especially when the turtles lay their eggs.

However, the sea is quite deep and not recommended for weak swimmers.

Views from Pachyammos beach
by: Helen

The views from Pachyammos beach are indeed spectacular as you have the majestic outline of the Akamas peninsula with it's characteristic humps and bumps to the west and the wide expanse of Morphou bay in the TRNC to the east.

Sadly there is also a large red Turkish flag painted on the hillside at Kokkino, the tiny enclave next to Pachyammos village, which was taken over by the Turks in 1962.

The beach at Pachyammos is wild and strewn with seaweed as you say, but the wild beauty around the area has its own unique aura and it's spectacular in both winter and summer.

I've added a picture of the village above so visitors to this page can get a better idea of why you love it so much.
